Uncharted 2 Among Thieves was a huge game, so much so that Nathan Drake became the poster boy of the PlayStation 3 family. The amount of heart pounding action sequences, the indepth narration of the story and the addictive gameplay meant that topping the game will be a herculean task.
In an interesting interview by Glitched Out, Tim Jaxon from Naughty Dog has claimed that community support will be factor if Uncharted 3 has to top Uncharted 2 and if they ever decide on expanding Uncharted they will likely make a new engine.
I’m going to be as vague as possible when I say this, but it can be answered with one word. Community.
Community support is the biggest thing because so many companies don’t listen to their fans correctly.
I think as a team we all feel that we’ve laid the foundation for Uncharted 3 with Uncharted 2 and we can build upon that foundation for now and make a bigger, more detailed and better game now.
This time we’re incorporating massive feedback from the community and utilizing that information to make a game that will top Uncharted 2 in many ways. If we decide to further the franchise from there, it’s likely that we’ll be building a new engine from the ground up again but for now, it’s important to understand what the community expects from us and then move from there.
I think that is perhaps one of the best ways to make Uncharted 3 a huge hit. In fact, every game is as big as its community.
