With several big role-playing games releasing in Q1 2024, like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Like Dragon: Infinite Wealth, and potentially Dragon’s Dogma 2, it’s easy to forget Unicorn Overlord. Vanillaware’s tactical fantasy RPG is from the team behind 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim and offers over 100 hours of content with more than 60 playable characters.
Some new details are available via a press release, discussing exploration in the overworld. Liberating settlements and towns grants access to vendors that sell armor and tools become available. You can station units to guard the location (who will collect items nearby), and enemies in the region are gone. If you rebuild a destroyed town with materials, inns become available that sell meals.
There are also Quarries to visit for treasure-hunting mini-games (with the potential to find treasure maps) and quests to complete. Forts offer the opportunity for mock battles, and you can expand the number of units per character slot.
However, you must complete Honors to earn Valor (usually by completing quests, battles and rebuilding towns) and reach a certain Renown Rank to use the Fort. Renown can also hire mercenaries for your cause.
Unicorn Overlord launches on March 8th, 2024, for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
