Vanillaware’s upcoming tactical RPG Unicorn Overlord is quite the big game, with 50 hours of content in the main quest (which goes over 100 if you also do the side quests). How long it ultimately lasts is up to the player, but one thing that will keep you busy is the sheer amount of playable characters.

During an Atlus Media Briefing at Tokyo Game Show 2023, Famitsu (translation via DeepL) learned that there are over 60 characters and 60 “types of soldiers.” “Command your friends of different races, such as humans, elves, beasts, and angels, as well as different types of soldiers, to defeat the enemy generals.”

The story sees protagonist Alain venturing the world of Fevrith with his Liberation Army to free it from the clutches of General Valmore. Along with freeing towns and cities, you’ll need to rebuild them. Training and outfitting allies is also a must. There’s no restriction to the characters you can deploy in battle.

It’s worth noting that despite over 60 characters being playable, over 100 will appear in-game with plenty of interactions. Since this is the team behind 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, you can expect plenty of character development.

Unicorn Overlord launches on March 8th, 2024, for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PS4, and Nintendo Switch. Stay tuned for more details and gameplay in the coming weeks.
