Unotelly is a very handy DNS service that allows you to watch previously blocked channels or services. The great thing about this is? It works with your game consoles – that’s right, the PS3 and Xbox 360. It just requires a simple DNS change to start with. What happens then is that your IP address is changed or spoofed to bypass the region block. Pretty simple, eh?
Services like Amazon Instant video, Netflix, Hulu and countless others can be accessed via this method, and it does not impact your bandwidth that most normal VPN services do. So far based on my experience I haven’t really found any sort of significant lag that hampers my experience. Considering your DNS is changed and you have been allocated a different IP based on your subscription package – pricing and stuff can be found here – the service works as intended.
You can watch all previously region locked channels and it doesn’t matter if you are in any part of the world.
Streaming quality depends on your internet connection, though. If you have a fast internet connection then UnoDNS will work as intended and you can watch any channel without any sort of buffering or poor quality.
One concern people have is with security. There are some problems here that I was initially skeptical of, but they have pretty good measures in place to protect your identity on the internet. Big problem with living in countries like India is that most of the features available to US Xbox Live members aren’t available to you, but guess what, you don’t have to worry about that anymore with this service.
It works as advertised and you can view all the stuff Microsoft has loaded in the dashboard, and it is compatible with PSN as well.
Here are a list of channels that are available based on your subscription plan:
Sounds great, doesn’t it? For more detailed explanation on these channels you can go here and check them out.
There are two types of plans as well – Premium and Gold. The Gold offers more features but it’s a bit expensive too costing $7.95 per month. Again you can visit here and check them out for yourself.
Setting up the service is quite easy and they have a handy wizard available on their website which explains you what to do. In case you’re confused their customer service seems to be pretty responsive as well.
Of course you can change back to your default DNS in case you aren’t using the service which allows you do to everything you were doing before, so it’s pretty simple. For security they have a TripeSafe service which protects you from Spam and in their words, “TripleSafe eliminates all DNS poisoning, replacing spam and ad pages with the oldfashioned “Browser Cannot Find the Page” message.
“Relax knowing that your browsing is safe and secure, entirely in your control, and with your sensitive data far from prying eyes.”
You can also stay logged into their service with their IP updater service. They have everything covered here and I’m pretty much trying to find faults with the service, but of course, this thing costs a bit so if you aren’t worried about paying then this is one of the best DNS services you could find.
It works as advertised, and that’s a good thing. I would like them to add a bunch of more features and more services into their plans but most people should be satisfied with what they have on offer.
Unotelly comes in handy for any PS3 and Xbox 360 owner and bypasses most region locks, so try it out for yourself. This is one service that is valuable for a lot of gamers out there, considering their consoles are much, much more than just game boxes.
THE GOOD
Very simple to setup. Ton of channels at your disposal. Hardly any lag or streaming issues. Security is good. Proper customer support in place.
THE BAD
Pricing plans may discourage people. Could use more channels and features.
Final Verdict
Great DNS service for movie buffs and gamers alike, and does what it advertises.
