Valheim Sells Over 1 Million Units in First Week

The co-op, Viking-based survival title is off to an amazing start.

Debuting almost out of nowhere last week on Steam Early Access, Iron Gate AB’s Valheim has already been a certified success. It’s sold over one million copies thus far, which is incredibly impressive for a co-op survival experience. The peak concurrent user total has hit 188,840 players and seems poised to rise further in the coming months.

In a recent post on Steam, the development team noted that it was “hard at work” addressing various reported issues. It also promises new content and improvements along with more “ways to die.” Valheim is essentially a survival game that supports up to 10 players that’s set in purgatory, albeit one inspired by Viking culture.

With the world being procedurally generated and focusing more on PvE threats, it’s up to players to learn the ropes and weather the harshness of their surroundings. Along with building ships and housing, players can also craft armor and weapons. Eventually, you’ll be able to summon bosses inspired by Viking myths and take them down to earn better items for crafting.

Valheim will remain in early access for at least a year, though it’s stated to be 75 percent complete feature-wise and 50 percent complete in terms of content. Stay tuned for more details and updates in the meantime.
