Valheim’s Future Updates Detailed – More Bosses, Recipes, and Mistlands Biome

Check out what's coming next to the Viking survival title.

Iron Gate AB’s Valheim continues to climb the sales charts with nearly three million units sold. With the current game being 50 percent complete in terms of content, what else is in store for players? Speaking to PC Gamer, Iron Gate co-founder Henrik Törnqvist provided some more details on the game’s roadmap, starting with the first update “Hearth and Home.”

Along with adding more the update will be “pretty focused on the food preparation aspect of the game with more recipes and stuff like that.” Update 2: Cult of the Wolf is about exploration and combat and will provide some “new fun and different encounters for the players.” Update 3 is Ships and the Sea, and will flesh out the ocean biome, providing more stuff to do.

It will also introduce ship customization into the mix, presumably with some new encounters as well. Update 4 introduces a new biome called the Mistlands and is fairly meaty. As Törnqvist notes, there will be “new enemies, new items, a new boss, new resources, everything, and that’s what we have planned for this year. So yeah, that’s quite quite a big task, but we will accept the challenge, so to speak.”

The final game will have nine biomes, each with their own boss, but the developer is also looking at adding mini-bosses to the mix. Either way, more bosses are coming so be prepared. As for when these updates can be expected, it’s going to be a long while given that the focus is on bug fixes.

“The whole team is working on fixing all the bugs that come to light when you suddenly get a million people playing your game. We’re five people, by the way, so we have quite a lot to do. But yeah, as soon as we feel ready, we will begin working on the updates outlined in the roadmap,” said Törnqvist.

Valheim is currently available on PC via Steam Early Access. Stay tuned for more details and updates in the coming weeks.
