Wasteland 3 Is More Than 50 Hours Long

Longer than the second game, inXile confirms.

inXile Entertainment’s upcoming Wasteland 3 might not be the most big budget RPG with an open world environment and what have you, but the scope of the project is still not exactly what you’d call “small”. The element of choice is something that’s the bread and butter of such games, and the same is going to be true of Wasteland 3 as well- but about how long can we expect the game to be in terms of gameplay hours?

Recently, in an interview with Wccftech, game director Tim Campbell answered that question. Though inXile Entertainment were aiming for the upcoming sequel to be about as long as Wasteland 2 was – at about 50 hours long – in spite of how thanks to the fact that the element of player choice can lead to average play times being hard to estimate, they estimate the game ended up being longer than what they were hoping for.

“We were aiming for 50 hours, which is about the same length as Wasteland 2,” said Campbell. “Now these things are, I’m just going to go on record with this, horribly tough to estimate. Because with a game where you can make so many different choices, you can go different ways to approach it. There are always shorter playstyles and there are always longer ways of playing the game. So we aim kind of in the middle, and then player experiences are going to vary shorter or longer from there. I know we targeted about the same length for Wasteland 2, I think it wound up being longer.”

In the same interview, the game’s developers also spoke of Wasteland 3’s multiplayer mechanics. Get more details through hereWasteland 3 is out some time next year for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
