Wasteland 3’s Full Voice Acting “Increases Immersion and Delivers Greater Emotional Impact”

"Having our first fully voiced game is extremely exciting ," says studio head Brian Fargo.

Wasteland 3 is looking like exactly the sort of sequel fans of the series would have been hoping for, with developers inXile Entertainment promising to deliver an experience that improves upon its predecessor in every way imaginable. Interestingly enough though, while it was already looking like a step-up over the studio’s previous efforts, their acquisition by Microsoft seems to have proven hugely beneficial for the RPG’s development as well.

They’ve already talked about how the acquisition allowed them more time and resources for the game’s development, and one of the things, they used those two things for was ensuring that unlike previous inXile titles, Wasteland 3 is completely and fully voiced, so that every single line of dialogue in the game is backed up by voice acting. And according to studio head Brian Fargo, this is something that has greatly helped out with the game’s storytelling.

“Having our first fully voiced game is extremely exciting because it increases immersion and delivers greater emotional impact,” Fargo recently told GamingBolt in an interview. ”

Bringing the camera in for the first-person cinematic conversations ups that even further, and our animation team is continuing to add and refine those to ensure we’re pushing our visuals further than we’ve ever been able to before. All of these things together are hopefully going to create a more engaging story.”

In the same interview, Fargo also spoke to us about Wasteland 3’s improved dialogue and interaction mechanics, which are based on tools that inXile actually borrowed from fellow Xbox Game Studios developer Obsidian Entertainment. Read more on that through here.

Wasteland 3 is out for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC on May 19. Our full interview with Fargo will be going live soon, so stay tuned for that.
