Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus is yet another game that supports the Xbox One X’s hardware. Before the game’s launch, Bethesda stated that the Xbox One X patch will push the game to ‘4K’ resolution, however it wasn’t made clear whether it will be native or checkerboard 4K. Now that the Xbox One X patch is available for Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus and Xbox One X owners, we can now confirm that the game indeed runs at native 4K resolution, however it’s dynamic in nature. That means the Xbox One X version peaks out at a native 3840 X 2160 resolution in various situations but it does drop below its target in some cases.
However, when compared to the PS4 Pro, this is a massive boost in resolution. As we noted earlier, Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus on the PS4 Pro ran at 2560 X 1440 resolution. This immediately gives the Xbox One X a 56% advantage over the PS4 Pro in terms of pixel density. Do note that this percentage only applies to the peak resolution of the Xbox One X and that percentage is bound to fall where resolution decreases according to the in-game load. But other than the difference in image quality, there isn’t really much to choose from either versions in terms of texture quality, core assets and shadow quality. Both versions are 1:1 match in these departments. On the frame rate front too, both the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X deliver similar performance so there is very little choose here.
Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus is yet another game that largely delivers what the console promised. 4K resolution at 60 frames per second on a console is a phenomenal leap and it makes the Xbox One X the best place to play Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus on.
