World of Tanks Developer in Talks With Microsoft to Streamline Certification Process

CEO Victor Kislyi says the current process being "totally unacceptable" for a free to play title.

The Xbox 360 is home to a wealth of indie hits such as Minecraft and Terraria, but the certification process by which developers must get their games on to the console are tenuous at best, nightmarish at worst. You have to look no further than Fez developer Polytron Corportation’s issues when trying to patch the game after a major bug came to light.

Wargaming, developer of the free to play title World of Tanks, is looking to fix that. CEO Victor Kislyi is reportedly in talks to make the process of streamlining the certification process. Given how it takes a long time, especially for free-to-play games, it could help Microsoft’s ever woeful indie games policy.

Speaking to Polygon, Kislyi stated that, “One of the biggest challenges with Microsoft was the frequency of updates because the QA process and certification process takes an extremely long time. Totally unacceptable for a meaningful free-to-play.

“The good thing is with online games, sometimes if you screw up, you can do frequent updates. We are working with them to do quicker updates. We will see, there is a lot of work on the technical side and on the administrative side which should resolve in the acceptable quality of the product, including updates of the product including speed and rates. So we will see.”

It all depends on Microsoft of course, so we will indeed see if they listen and implement these changes.
