Blizzard isn’t the sort of company that releases games very often, but when it does, they take the world by storm. They have the kind of pedigree that very few other developers and publishers in this industry do, which is why every time Blizzard releases a new game, it’s an event in and of itself. And while we’re all very excited about potential new Diablo projects, we’re also curious to know what other new stuff they’re working on.
Apparently, it’s something that’s unlike anything else Blizzard has ever done before. While speaking with GamesBeat, J. Allen Brack, who recently became the president of Blizzard, talked about the project being headed up by Tom Chilton, who was formerly the director of World of Warcraft. According to Allen, the new game is unlike anything Blizzard’s ever done, and Chilton “plays that genre of game very deeply”.
“You have to decide how you want to invest,” said Brack. “We have a lot of different senior game developers who have a lot of different interests in a lot of different genres. Tom Chilton worked on WoW for more than 13 years. He and I, in my old job, started up a new project that was not something like Blizzard has ever done before. He’s passionate about it. He plays that genre of game very deeply. He understands it, he’s excited about it, and we want to help him do that.”
In September, there were reports that suggested that at least one of Blizzard’s unannounced projects is an “action-packed” first person game. Perhaps this is the game Chilton is working on? Either way, we hope to find out soon- maybe even at BlizzCon, which is currently underway, and goes on until tomorrow.
