The Scorpio is not going to be its own console, that it is, instead, going to be a highly supercharged version of the regular Xbox One instead- much like the PS4 Pro is to the standard PS4. We have also been repeatedly assured that the Scorpio will not have its own exclusive games, that all games will be ‘Xbox’ games that run on Xbox One, and then run a bit better on Xbox Scorpio.
But how will existing Xbox One games benefit from Scorpio? Since they were never programmed for the Scorpio’s hardware to begin with, will they have to be patched in on an individual basis? Or will the Scorpio have something like the PS4 Pro’s ‘Boost Mode’ to be able to distribute enhancements across all games?
Speaking on Twitter in response to questions, Phil Spencer said that he is ‘confident’ about how Scorpio will run existing Xbox One games. “I’m very confident in the way Scorpio will run existing XB1 games,” Spencer said.
On this, I hope he is true. I hope E3 this year is not just an Xbox Scorpio blowout, but Microsoft revealing some very ambitious looking Xbox exclusive projects, too.
