In the latest episode of the Iron Lords podcast, Xbox’s director of project management Jason Ronald spoke about the plans of adding a Platinum Trophy equivalent for the platform. Check out the video for the full podcast down below.
On PlayStation, players get a Platinum Trophy once they have obtained 100% of the Trophies in a particular game. Xbox games have achievements, of course, although completing 100% of those doesn’t net anything specific. Ronald talked about how different players play differently, and that the Xbox team is looking to reward those different types in different ways.
“We’ve definitely heard that feedback,” Ronald said (transcribed by Pure Xbox). “Achievements are an interesting one because everybody plays games differently. So we really think about, how do we reward people for playing the way that you want to, and the games that you want to?
“There’s some players who just prefer to play multiplayer. What are we doing to reward them and show progression and things like that? There’s other people who like to play tons of different games, so how do we go ahead and respect that investment? And then there’s other people like myself where I’m a completionist and I literally want to complete everything within a game.
“So, it’s a balance and it’s definitely an area that we’ve heard some feedback on. Nothing to announce today, but definitely top of mind for us as we look to the road ahead.”
Xbox has previously looked up to PlayStation for improvements in other departments as well, with the head of Xbox praising the DualSense controller, and how the Xbox team might work on similar improvements for its own controllers. A Platinum Trophy equivalent would be great for Xbox players, of course, although you should probably keep your expectations in check for now, since, as Ronald explains, there’s nothing to announce on that front just yet.
