Xbox One and PS4 Outsell Previous Generation by 127 Percent in Canada – NPD

Ratio of games to a single console owner is down by 11 percent despite increased software sales.

The NPD Group has reported that the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 have done very well in Canada, outselling the Xbox 360 and PS3 by 127 percent in their first eight months. NPD’s Darrell Ryce stated in a blog post that “Console sales in Canada have never been stronger.”

Though software sales had also increased by 102 percent for the current generation over the previous, the number of games that a consumer owns for a single console is down 11 percent. As Ryce explains, there is a “lack of truly compelling content at this time in either digital or physical format.” However, seeing as how this has been the trend in the industry for a while now, Ryce says, “It will be resolved in time for the holidays.”

Right now, there’s a lack of real exclusives for either console but that will be remedied when the Xbox One receives Forza Horizon 2, Sunset Overdrive, Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Project Spark in the Holidays, with the PS4 receiving DriveClub and Little Big Planet 3.
