Xbox One And Windows 10 Receiving Dolby Atmos Support

The support will be coming in 2017.

Microsoft is pretty clearly feeling as though they have found a winning combo when it comes to the Xbox One and Windows 10. In order to capitalize on that winning partnership, the company has announced that the two platforms are going to be getting Dolby Atmos support sometime early in 2017.

Xbox One is going to be the first console that is getting this kind of support and that in itself is a pretty big deal. Dolby Atmos is a kind of 3D sound system, which lets players hear in-game effects from all directions. That means that when players boot up a game they’ll hear snipers over their left shoulder, for example, or attackers coming from behind them.

In order to take advantage of this, you’ll need to have equipment that is geared for Dolby Atmos support. Considering Windows 10 devices have missed their billion device goals, this kind of thing might help spark some growth in adoption.
