Xbox One and Windows 10 Unification Won’t Prompt Change in Sony’s Strategy

Andrew House says "latent large consumer demand" for the same remains to be seen.

Along with the Xbox One S and Project Scorpio, one of Microsoft’s biggest strategies at E3 2016 was to push cross-platform play and simultaneous releases of Xbox One titles on Windows 10. How has this affected Sony’s plans for the future? Andrew House, president of Sony Interactive Entertainment, spoke about the same during the publisher’s Investor Day and noted that it wouldn’t affect Sony’s current strategy.

“I always hesitate to be drawn into discussions on someone else’s strategy. I’m more than happy to talk about our own strategy…Yes, there was a big emphasis from the folks at Microsoft on Xbox and PC cross-play. It remains to be seen whether there is latent large consumer demand for that.

“But we don’t see it as really effecting or prompting any change in our thought process or strategy. We have always tended to believe that a proprietary ecosystem offering a very well crafted unified client experience is the way to go, and that sort of remains our strategy.”

Does that mean we shouldn’t expect PS4 exclusives on the PC anytime soon? What are your thoughts on the same? Let us know in the comments.
