Xbox One Backward Compatibility Releases Will Resume In 2018

Over 150 backward compatible games were released in 2017.

Microsoft’s commitment to their backward compatibility initiative, via which they aim to make Xbox and Xbox 360 games playable on their new console, with improvements where possible, and secure continuity of game library for their players, is truly admirable. And while many feared that their resolve would fizzle out eventually- after all, that is what happened on the Xbox 360, which had a similar program for original Xbox games- they’ve only moved from strength to strength on this front.

This last year, for example, Microsoft released over 150 backward compatible games for Xbox One, which included 136 Xbox 360 games, 13 from the original Xbox, and seven Xbox 360 Enhanced games. It was a truly eventful year.

The team behind this feature is now taking some time off for the Holidays for a few weeks- but Microsoft’s Major Nelson assured fans on Twitter that new backward compatible releases would resume in 2018. So there are more Xbox 360 games being playable on Xbox One to look forward to yet- to say nothing of original Xbox games, either.
