Update: It seems there is much confusion whether this data is related to most searched or trending. The report seems to focus on top search trends throughout 2014 and across the world. So Xbox One was the 7th most popular search that was trending on Google in 2014 under consumer devices. But we are not sure whether this also applies to the most searched term as well. We will update this post once we find more.
Original Story:
A couple of weeks ago we reported that Xbox One was the second most searched term on Bing under devices in 2014. Unfortunately, many players dismissed that report since Microsoft owns Bing so they could potentially manipulate the results in their own favor. Now, Google, which is the world’s biggest search engine has revealed that Xbox One was the most searched gaming console in 2014.
The listing comes under Consumer Electronics where the Xbox One was placed 7th behind iPhone 6, Samsung Galaxy S5, Nexus 6, Moto G, Samsung Note 4 and LG G3. Since Google does not have specific category for consoles and the PlayStation 4 is no where to be seen in the top 10, it indirectly means that Xbox One was the most searched console of 2014. This is indeed an icing on the cake for Microsoft following November’s victory in USA and UK.
Are these signs of changing tides? If yes, then it’s indeed a good thing since competition results into innovation which eventually leads to happy consumers. What are your thoughts on this? Let us know in the comments section below.
