While Microsoft has beat Sony to the punch in officially unveiling their next console, there’s still a lot we don’t know about the Xbox Series X. We have a general idea based on the many rumors that keep popping up as well as the many second hand declarations from developers or publishers about capabilities. We won’t know the full extent of the system until it hits store shelves, obviously, but one mystery could be solved if a new report is accurate.
As reported by Thurrott, one of the leading and most reliable Xbox leakers out there, one of the mystery ports on the back of the system has been unveiled. Earlier in the month we got an alleged model of the back of the console showing its various ports. Most of them are pretty obvious, but one stuck out. According to sources close to Thurrott, that slot will actually be for expandable storage. No other details or context was given.
It makes sense, if true, especially as the size of video games have ballooned in an absurd way over the last few years. Whatever size HDDs the next consoles will have with undoubtedly not be enough, so giving the option to expand it is a logic one. For now, it’s all rumor and speculation, so we’ll have to wait to see for sure.
