Ubisoft has revealed that its upcoming multiplayer shooter XDefiant will not be released before the end of this month. The game was originally set for release before the end of the current financial year, which would end on March 31, 2024, which itself was window set on the back of numerous previous delays.
In an update posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Ubisoft has stated that the team is still working on making improvements to the game that need to be tested. In its statement, the XDefiant development team has revealed that it is preparing a 12-hour server test session on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
“This game has always been community-first, with player feedback as a top priority,” Ubisoft’s message reads. “While we hoped to go live by the end of March, there are still some improvements that we need to test before that.
“We’re finishing preparation for a 12-hour Server Test Session that will be worldwide on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The goal of this test is to stress our servers and get critical data to prepare us for launch.”
The company will be able set a launch date for XDefiant after gathering feedback from players during the server test session. This test session itself doesn’t yet have a date, however.
“After this short test, we expect to be able to lock a launch date and start sharing more about the exciting content XDefiant has to offer in the future,” Ubisoft says.
Reports from earlier this month indicated that Ubisoft was struggling with the development of XDefiant, with executives trying to turn the title into copy of Activision’s Call of Duty franchise.
Whenever it launches, XDefiant will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, with PS4 and Xbox One versions planned for later.
