Following the conclusion of XDefiant’s Server Test Session on April 19th to 21st, executive producer Mark Rubin says a release date is coming “very soon.”
There are some caveats, of course. The Server Test “went really well from a scale and server standpoint,” but there is “some tuning to do. Pretty straightforward stuff that will be done very soon, if not already.”
In another tweet, Rubin compared the old netcode to an “old, kinda busted guitar, but it was reasonably tuned” to the new iteration, a “new guitar” that needs tuning (which the Server Test did). He noted the three biggest issues to be Delta-01 errors potentially causing additional problems with latency, Health Bars updating late (making it seem like player bullets were doing no damage) and “not aggressive enough” matchmaking.
The latter resulted in participants having “higher ping than we would have wanted,” though it improved on the last day of the test. Ubisoft San Francisco will improve on some of these before launch and well afterwards.
XDefiant is in development for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC. It’s faced several delays since its announcement in 2021, allegedly due to “the never-ending hunt to chase CoD and add pointless stuff”, thus breaking the “current build,” per Insider-Gaming’s Tom Henderson. Stay tuned for updates on the release date in the meantime.
