With the announcement that Lana Del Rey was singing the official theme for 007 First Light, it only seemed obvious that there would be a classic Bond-style title sequence. Sure enough, IO Interactive has revealed the same, and the track “First Light” definitely complements it, even if the imagery can seem all over the place.
Perhaps most notable is the beginning, where a notable amount of shadows accompany the light. The shot of giant chess pieces silhouetted against missile strikes, with a Knight being struck, feels ominous, but it quickly transitions to fireworks and Bond walking out in style, “like a moth to a flame.” Of course, he’s still being watched from the shadows, perhaps hinting at danger even in relatively social situations.
Overall, it’s in tune with previous title sequences for the series, and really leans into IO Interactive’s goal to make you feel like Bond as much as possible (without breaking character).
007 First Light arrives on May 27th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, with the Nintendo Switch 2 version recently delayed to Summer. While there’s still plenty we don’t know about the story, including the identity of the rogue 009, the Indonesian Ratings Board accidentally leaked the ending, so beware of spoilers ahead of launch.
