Of the many titles out in the coming months, Asobo Studio’s A Plague Tale: Innocence is perhaps the most intriguing. Published by Focus Home Interactive, the story takes place during the Hundred Years War as two siblings, Amicia and Hugo, struggle to survive. The Dark Ages weren’t exactly the most idealistic setting, and in the second episode of its web-series, the developer discusses the process of recreating that period.
Due to the realistic setting, Asobo Studio visited actual French villages with medieval history to study layouts and streets. The lighting takes cues from famous painters for a more natural look and there’s dirt everywhere, reflecting the lack of hygiene at the time. The sheer amount of detail seen definitely reflects the work put into it.
A Plague Tale: Innocence is out on May 14th. It will be coming to Xbox One, PS4 and PC. For more information on the gameplay and story, check out the first episode of the developer’s web-series here. You can also head here for 16 minutes of raw gameplay from Gamescom 2018.
