Activision Will Be Releasing More Remasters/Remakes This Year

Plans for the same will be revealed "in due course."

Activision have enjoyed great success with remakes and remasters of beloved classic games in recent years, from Crash Bandicoot to Spyro the Dragon to Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. Considering the commercial and critical success they’ve seen with each of those games, it’s not surprising that they have more remasters (or remakes) in the works.

Speaking recently during Activision-Blizzard’s quarterly investors call, chief financial officer Dennis Durkin said that Activision is currently working on more remasters that will be revealed soon and will be coming out this year.

“We have a few other things up our sleeve in terms of remastered content that will unveil in due course, which should provide further opportunity for us this year,” Durkin said.

It’s easy to theorize and speculate on what classic games Activision could be remaking this time, but recent reports might have spilled the beans on at least one of them. Allegedly, Diablo 2 remake is in the works at Blizzard, being developed by the team that was formerly Vicarious Visions- the developers of the Crash and Tony Hawk remakes who were recently merged into Blizzard as a new support team.

It doesn’t seem like we’ll have to wait too long to hear about these new remasters, so at least we’ll know for sure one way or another soon enough. Stay tuned until then for more details.
