Alan Wake 2 Will Have a Performance Mode, Remedy Confirms

However, communications director Thomas Puha says the game was "built from the beginning as a 30 FPS experience focusing on visuals and ambiance."

With a month still to go until Alan Wake 2 releases, developer Remedy Entertainment has confirmed that the long-awaited survival horror sequel will have a Performance Mode option available on consoles upon its release.

Remedy’s communications director, Thomas Puha, recently confirmed the same in a tweet, stating that even though Alan Wake 2 was designed from the ground-up as a 30 FPS experience first, it will nonetheless feature a “solid” Performance Mode option.

“I’m glad to say that Alan Wake 2 will have a Performance Mode on PS5 and Xbox Series X,” Puha wrote. “The game has been built from the beginning as a 30 FPS experience focusing on visuals and ambience, but somehow we have managed to include a solid Performance Mode.”

Puha says Remedy will “talk details later”, but when asked if Performance Mode will run the game at a locked 60 FPS or at an unlocked frame rate targeting 60, he said the development team is “still tweaking that”.

Notably, Puha hasn’t mentioned the game’s Xbox Series S version, so it remains to be seen what the game’s performance and resolution targets will be on the console’s weaker hardware.

Alan Wake 2 is due out on October 27 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
