Anthem’s launch is fast approaching, and EA and BioWare continue to show us more of the game in the lead up to it. For instance, in the livestream for the game today, we got our very first look at Strongholds, which will be the game’s equivalent of dungeons.
The Stronghold we saw in the stream today, which you can see for yourself below, was The Temple of the Scars. It is presumably one of the earlier ones, because it doesn’t seem too complex. You progress through a linear sequence of rooms, taking out enemies, and addressing minor environmental puzzles along the way.
BioWare confirmed that Strongholds will have matchmaking, so you don’t need a persistent group of friends to be able to play. They also confirmed that the game will not have raids (a term that BioWare was careful to note it is not using on purpose, choosing instead the terms “aspirational content” or “end game pursuits”), but that these will be available by the time players reach the end game. That said, at least we know that the loot from the end game can be, “very rarely”, obtained from other sources too
Anthem launches for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on February 22, 2019.
