Apex Legends 2 Will Probably Never Be Made, As Per Respawn

"We do believe in this game as a live game," says Executive Producer Drew McCoy.

Apex Legends might be dropping off in popularity off late, but on the whole, it’s been a great success for both EA and Respawn Entertainment. And as is the case with anything that sees a lot of critical and commercial success, people are wondering whether there will ever be an Apex Legends 2. If you’re hoping for a sequel though- well, don’t hold your breath.

Recently, in an interview with USGamer, Executive Producer Drew McCoy got to talking about the future of Apex Legends, and said, very bluntly, that Respawn Entertainment will never be making Apex Legends 2. The developer sees this as a long-term, live service project, and will be supporting it for many years to come- with McCoy even jokingly mentioning that he’s looking forward to “season 72”.

“I mean, most people don’t realize how long it takes to make anything, and so a character for us takes about a year and a half to make,” McCoy said. “So we’ve been playing Wattson since early last year, but we have so much stuff in the pipe right now coming that people are always like, ‘So what are you guys gonna do for this or that?’ Like dude, we’re thinking years ahead at this point. We do believe in this game as a live game. We’re never gonna make an Apex 2; hoping next Season 72 is awesome. That’s kind of where our head is at: how are we setting this up for the long term.”

Apex Legends recently entered its second season, which brought with it new character, a new weapon, and more- such as dragons, who drop loot when they’re shot down. It should be interesting to see what ideas Respawn has waiting in the wings for future seasons, and how well they can keep supporting the game in the years to come.

Apex Legends is currently available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, but Respawn is planning on bringing it over to mobile devices soon as well.
