It has been a good year for all sorts of games becoming unexpected successes- it started all the way at the beginning of this year, with games such as Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and Bloodborne breaking out of their franchises’ previously held niches, and selling million copies; Project CARS went on to justify its long development time, and sell a million copies worldwide too. Vaunted city sim game Cities: Skylines sold million. The Witcher 3 finally broke the series into the mainstream, with four million copies sold on its end, while Nintendo’s first new retail IP launch in decade, Splatoon, sold a million copies in less than a month too.
Now, we can add another name to that list of successes- the dinosaur survival game that came out exclusively on PC with no marketing, and just incredible word of mouth, Ark: Survival Evolved, has sold a million copies. That’s not all either, as Studio Wildcard announced that the game would be getting official modding support thanks to a new partnership with Epic Games, which will give users access to a simplified version of Epic’s Unreal suite to create new mods of all kinds for the game.
