Assassin’s Creed 4: Ubisoft Explains Why The Pirate Story Makes Sense

Life on the high seas for an Assassin actually makes lots of sense.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will see the continuation of Ubisoft’s highly successful open world adventure series, and focus this time on Edward Kenway, Connor’s grandfather, and his exploits as a pirate on the high seas.

Of course, when it was first announced, there was some reservations about the pirate theme and story. But according to Ubisoft Singapore Senior Producer Hugues Ricour, “When you look at the Assassin’s franchise, it’s a plot between the Assassins and Templars. It’s always linked to political powers battling in a certain region of the world.

“That’s exactly what happened in the early 18th Century. All the gold, all the riches, were coming from the New World; from the Caribbeans, from the Americas. The empires were all at war.. That is why this pirate story totally makes sense in terms of Assassin’s Creed.”

So thematically, Assassin’s Creed IV is just fine. Let’s see how the overall game measures up when it releases for Wii U, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC on October 29th in North America and for Xbox One and PS4 in Q4 2013.
