Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Won’t Let You Use the Hidden Blade as a Separate Weapon

Instead, players can use it as a "fatal, contextual (and BLOODY!) takedown" in combat, according to creative director Paul Fu.

In a year where Ubisoft underwent a massive reset and doesn’t have any other notable games, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced may very well be its most important release in a while. Ubisoft Singapore and Vantage Studios have spoken extensively about sticking close to the original when it comes to Edward Kenway and the story, but it’s clear that it’s not 100 percent faithful.

First was the reveal that multiplayer and the DLC would not be making the cut (while remaining unclear on the modern-day Abstergo story). Now, it seems that players can no longer use the Hidden Blade as a separate weapon like in the original.

In responding to a Reddit AMA about the same, creative director Paul Fu said, “Dual swords are the main weapons Edward will use in battle. The Hidden Blade is not a selectable weapon, but a fatal, contextual (and BLOODY!) takedown that is available when you break the defense of your opponent!

“This makes the Hidden Blade Takedown a critical part of moment-to-moment combat, which was not the case in the original.” With 86 downvotes and counting, it’s clear that most fans didn’t appreciate this response, calling it disappointing and asking for the team to add it to the remake.

Whether it acquiesces remains to be seen, but post-launch support wouldn’t be completely out of the question. After all, Assassin’s Creed Shadows received numerous updates in the past year that added several essential features like a detailed stats screen, manual jumps, and much more. Time will ultimately tell, though.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced launches on July 9th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Head here for all the details on the HUD and how you can adjust every single element or disable it entirely.
