Assassin’s Creed Codename Red Features a Playable Samurai and Shinobi, Targeting Fall 2024 – Rumor

The title is reportedly inspired by Splinter Cell and Hitman, including the ability to conceal bodies, extinguish lights and hide in tall grass.

Ubisoft hasn’t provided any new details on Assassin’s Creed Codename Red, its next mainline title in the franchise. Though development issues were reported in December, it’s apparently in good shape and will have two playable protagonists, as per Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson. An update has since been provided, revealing that the characters are a Samurai and Shinobi.

How they’ll play is unknown, but the teaser that Ubisoft revealed seemingly featured the Samurai, who is female. The Shinobi is rumored to be an African refugee who has taken up the Creed, which lends well to the project’s rumored focus on stealth. Developer Ubisoft Quebec is apparently taking a Hitman or Splinter Cell-style approach to gameplay.

You can hide in tall grass, conceal bodies and extinguish lights to hide your shadows. Though the game is internally targeting a Fall 2024 launch, it may be a while before it’s revealed. Insider Gaming reported that Ubisoft is focusing on the gameplay premiere of Assassin’s Creed Mirage and the announcement of Assassin’s Creed Nexus, a VR title. Stay tuned in the meantime for more updates.
