Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Creative Director Explains How Rap Battles Work in the Game

Will the real Viking Shady please stand up?

Assassin’s Creed games never fail to capture the vibe and tone of their historical settings perfectly, and the idea of a game in the series with Vikings doing that is a salivating one. And while we’ll of course be looking forward to conquering England with our Heathen Army, there are other more surprising, much smaller aspects that also sounds interesting. For instance- rap battles.

To be more specific, here they’re called flyting, but rap battles is essentially what they are, and they will be an actual, proper side mechanic. And in a video posted to Twitter by the official Assassin’s Creed Twitter account, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla creative director Ashraf Ismail talked about how these will work in the game. Essentially, you’ll get dialogue options during these competitions where you’ll have to pick the best and most insulting rhymes- and that sounds oddly exciting. Take a look below.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is out later this year for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC, and Stadia, with recent reports pegging it for an October launch. We’ll probably be seeing more gameplay during Ubisoft’s E3-syle showcase in July, so stay tuned for that.
