Battlefield 2042 Studio Has “No Time” for Other Projects Says New General Manager

According to the DICE general manager, the studio is too busy with the Battlefield franchise to work on other projects like Mirror's Edge.

Chances of a new Mirror’s Edge game have gotten quite slim. According to DICE general manager Rebecka Coutaz in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, the studio has “no time” to work on a new project like Mirror’s Edge as it is busy with the Battlefield franchise.

“Totally,” said Coutaz when asked whether a new project in the style of Mirror’s Edge was off the table. “We are only focusing on Battlefield 2042. There is no time for anything else and this is what we want to do. In three years, we want to be the first-person shooter powerhouse that DICE deserves to be, and that is what we’re going for.”

Both DICE and EA have committed to long-term support for Battlefield 2042, despite its early setbacks. Battlefield 2042‘s first season kicked off in June, bringing with it one new map and a specialist.

“The players are enjoying our map and the content that we have provided, so it’s a win for us and it makes us feel better,” said Coutaz about Battlefield 2042‘s season 1.

More recently, there have been rumours that Battlefield 2042 only has “skeleton crew” working on it. According to these rumours, DICE is essentially working with a small crew to release the promised 4-season support to appease the playerbase as the studio as a whole works on a different Battlefield project.
