Battlefield 5 released last year to mostly positive reviews. Since then the game has seen a series of updates to address criticisms of lacking content. The biggest addition so far has been Firestorm mode, a Battlefield take on the battle royale genre. It’s has been a huge success, being the biggest Battlefield live service launch event ever. It’s also had its share of updates of its own, and now it’s seeing some more. But unfortunately it’s not an addition, as something is being dropped- the Duo mode.
The mode was dropped to the surprise of players as they logged on yesterday. On the game’s official Reddit, DICE explained that they decided to drop the Duo mode, after bringing it back once already, after seeing that more people are jumping back into Squads mode. They did say that it’s possible the mode will return, since it did once before as well. It will all be down to the flow of the player base.
“Duo received an overwhelmingly positive reaction at launch,” DICE wrote. “It debuted during a weekend, and was initially done so only as an early first look at the mode. Duo was originally designed as a limited time offering similar to Grind and Rush, and featured as limited time content in Chapter 3.”
“When Duo was first removed, you told us that you wanted to see it come back and we were happy to support,” the developer went on. Since then, we’ve seen more folks jump back into Squads mode, with less preferring to Firestorm it up in Duo – so we’re going to get back to the original plan today and we’ve disabled it’s matchmaking.”
Duo mode, however, might end up making a return eventually. Wrote DICE: “As with other limited time modes, we never say never. We’re confident that we’ll see it again!”
