We have already received some information on Battlefield 5‘s battle royale mode, which we know will be called “Firestorm”. The battle royale mode will have 64 players on the map, and we already know that it will not be developed by DICE themselves. Instead, it seems like it will be developed by a very beloved developer under EA’s umbrella- Criterion, the folks who brought us the Burnout series back in the day.
EA confirmed this in a new blog post detailing the Firestorm mode, stating that Criterion is developing it in partnership with DICE. They also confirmed that hallmarks of Battlefield multiplayer, such as vehicles, destructible environments, and, of course, teamwork and coordination, will all be present in the Firestorm mode as well.
It’s kind of a shame that the once proud Criterion, who were on the cutting edge with the Burnout games, have been reduced to essentially being a support studio, but what I do hope is that the Firestorm mode displays the same kind of brilliance that they were once known for.
Battlefield 5 launches on November 20 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
