With all the hype for Borderlands 3, Gearbox Software’s long-awaited sequel in the looter shooter series, the guns have arguably garnered the most interest. That’s not too surprising, since we’ve seen guns that walk, deal a new type of elemental damage, and so on. What is surprising is just how unique all of them are going to sound.
According to senior sound designer Joshua Davidson, Borderlands 3 has 7,500 .wav sound files for its weapons. This is 25 times the amount that the guns in Borderlands 2 had, which is a unique feat considering the sheer variety of weapons on offer. Even crazier is the fact that the development team is “still not done.” So yes, that number will likely go higher upon release.
Borderlands 3 is out on September 13th for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It will be launching on the Epic Games Store first for PC, but will come to other storefronts like Steam in April 2020. The game will feature four new Vault Hunters, multiple planets, and new antagonists to battle. Stay tuned for more details, especially with the gameplay showcase set for May 1st.
