Borderlands 3 Won’t Be End Of The Franchise, “Always Room For More Story,” Say Writers

The series will continue on well past the third entry.

You undoubtedly read the headline of this article and responded with either an eyeroll or a ‘duh,’ or a combination of both. While it’s a no-brainer that a series as successful as Borderlands will continue on, it’s not uncommon for companies to hype up and promote much awaited entries in franchises, especially the third game (traditionally the end of a trilogy), as some sort of finale. But it seems the team behind Borderlands 3 is taking a different approach, being very open that the series will continue on after the third game.

Speaking with DualShockers, Lead Writers Danny Homan and Sam Winkler talked openly about the future of the franchise. Both say that they’re very proud of Borderlands 3, and see it as ending a lot of threads that have run through the series since the beginning, but that there’s “always room for more story in Borderlands.” They say they see the whole thing as more of an ongoing “saga” with connected stories over a tightly written trilogy.

Borderlands 3 will release September 13th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. If you’re curious about what the team did to get the game out about 2-3 years early, check out cool development story through here.
