All eyes were on Sledgehammer Games, and their debut game, which also happens to be the newest entry in the Call of Duty franchise. They obviously have a lot of pressure riding on them- not only do they have to live up to the general expectation surrounding the games, but they also have to reverse what is generally seen as a downwards trend for the franchise exemplified by games such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, and most of all, last year’s awful Call of Duty: Ghosts.
So Advanced Warfare came out yesterday, and so did the reviews. And the verdict? It’s a hit. It’s a home run. It may not be a Modern Warfare like re-invention (and if it is, we won’t know for a few years now, will we?), but it’s definitely the best Call of Duty game in years- possibly since 2010’s stellar Treyarch developed Black Ops.
IGN gave the game 9.1, Game Informer gave it 9, Polygon gave it 9, GameTrailers gave it 8.7, Gamespot gave it 8, and so did Destructoid. It currently has Metascore of 85, with praise being lavished on the mobility and the campaign.
