Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Multiplayer Early Builds Resembled Overwatch- Report

Treyarch's upcoming game seems like a confusing mess right now.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has been in the news a lot lately. Recent reports claim that in order to be able to launch in time, the game will be doubling down on its focus on online multiplayer and completely doing away with its single player campaign, while the same reports also state that the shooter will also be launching with battle royale mode, which is being developed by developers Raven Software.

Interestingly enough, as per a report on reputed Call of Duty website Charlie Intel, the earlier builds for Black Ops 4’s online multiplayer bore a striking resemblance to Blizzard’s uber-popular 2016 hero shooter Overwatch. As per the leak, scrapped details about the multiplayer mode earlier in the game’s development indicated featured unique character builds similar to heroes in Overwatch, each with their own distinct abilities and disabilities.

After play tests were conducted, however, the feedback Treyarch received was not as positive as they were hoping it would be, which resulted in them redacting most of the major similarities with Blizzard’s shooter and bring the experience more in line with a traditional Call of Duty game. The report also goes into some detail about killstreaks, perks, andwhat movement in the game will be like, saying that it’s going to be a sort of mix between the boots-to-the-ground approach taken by 2017’s WW2 and the high-flying sci-fi movement of Black Ops 3.

This is, of course, unconfirmed, so take it all with a dash of salt. You can get more details through the link above. Call of Duty Black Ops 4 is due out in October this year for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for continued coverage on the game.
