Activision has revealed in a finnacial call that in spite of the controversy surrounding Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, the upcoming entry in the long running first person shooter series, and Treyarch’s first game since 2015’s Black Ops 3, pre-orders for the game are doing “strong”.
For those of you tuned out on why there is any controversy surrounding the game at all, there’s a lot of reasons- for starters, this year’s game will have no campaign. Eschewing the trend of free post launch DLC, it will also have paid DLC with season passes, in addition to, of course, the requisite microtransactions. The ongoing PlayStation exclusivity deals for DLC, even if timed, are also alienating some players.
But yes, in spite of that, the game is doing “strongly” in terms of pre-orders. Which, honestly, you should have expected. It’s Call of Duty. Nothing will really kill Call of Duty, not even Activision. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 launches on PS4, Xbox One, and PC this October. You can gear up for the upcoming beta ahead of the release, if you want to prepare for its launch.
