Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Tops Charts in Japan in New Media Create Report

Switch continues to top the hardware charts.

Call of Duty is a phenomenon worldwide. Even in a country like Japan, where western games traditionally don’t do as well (the recent success of Spider-Man notwithstanding). Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, the newest entry in the series, topped the software charts in the newest Media Create report, selling a staggering 228,775 copies in its first week. Depending on the legs it has from here on out, it could go on to become one of the bestselling western games in Japan of all time.

Call of Duty aside, Super Mario Party came in at second place, showcasing good legs of its own and selling over 60,000 copies. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2, and Super Mario Odyssey all continued to be fixtures on the sales charts as well.

On the hardware side of things, the Switch was the bestselling system of last week, with over 40,000 units sold. PS4 saw a rather dramatic spike in sales too, thanks to the PS4 Pro price cut in Japan coming into effect. You can check out the full hardware and software charts for yourself below.
