In addition to a release date for Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0, the Call of Duty: Next showcase was full of details for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer. It unveiled new maps like Sariff Bay, a new 32v32 map set near a fishing bay with boats, an amphibious APC, and intense urban combat with rooftops to traverse.
There’s also Mercado Las Almas, a 6v6 map set in a little street market in Mexico. Three new modes were also announced, like Invasion, a 20v20 mode where each team has 20 AI allies. Your goal is to eliminate all enemies, but the AI will be on the hunt as well. There’s also Prisoner Rescue and Knockout, with the former serving as an attack and defend mode.
Attacks have to rescue two prisoners while the defenders have to stop them. If a prisoner is picked up, the player can’t use their primary but can perform a radar sweep that helps their team. Prisoners also can’t be seen, so defenders must go to the ex-fil to stop them.
Also, for the first time in the series, a third-person view is available. It featured a revamped camera with weapon shake and other little nuances, thus providing a new way to enjoy Call of Duty.
Special Ops also received some new details, and the focus this time is on two-player missions with asymmetrical design (one person on the ground and the other in the air, for instance). Missions like “Overwatch” served as an inspiration for the mode. In addition, there’s a new mode called Raid which mixes combat, teamwork and puzzle-solving. It arrives sometime after launch.
More details are coming soon, so stay tuned. Finally, those who pre-ordered through the PlayStation Store would receive Hiro “Oni” Watanabe as an Operator and a high-level Weapon Blueprint. This will remain exclusive to PlayStation platforms until October 27th, 2023.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is out on October 28th for Xbox One, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Check out the multiplayer reveal here. An open beta goes live today for PlayStation platforms – for more details, head here.
