Call of Duty Warzone 2.0

Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0, the successor to the insanely popular battle royale title, goes live on November 16th. It will be free-to-play, coinciding with the launch of Season 1 for Modern Warfare 2, and features the biggest battle royale map in the series to date – Al Mazrah. Also, DMZ is real and will be available at launch.

Everything from Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer is integrated into Warzone 2.0, from water combat to dives and the new tools. New vehicles include boats with turrets, small boats, and a giant helicopter with three doors. A new physics model for vehicles, which allows heavier vehicles to take damage from explosives differently, has also been implemented.

Interestingly, vehicles can run out of gas, necessitating a visit to a gas station to refill them. Tires can also be repaired if damaged. Other new features include proximity chat for teams to trash-talk each other; loadout items in hidden caches underground, with looting now having some logic applied (like grenades in toolboxes); and the dangerous circle now splitting into smaller separate circles before merging for the final battle.

There’s also an All-New Gulag. This time, players form a temporary alliance with another opponent from the map and must work together to defeat another team. You also have Strongholds, reinforced buildings that AI occupy on the map. Players can choose whether to engage them to get cool rewards like free loadout items (the best weaponry). They also have Black Sites for even better loot. You can also find AI enemies around the map at different points of interest.

As for DMZ, very little was revealed about the new extraction mode, but it’s described as a “rich sandbox” where players can define their win condition. It’s played across the whole map with some lethal AI roaming. You can chase different activities, go quiet or guns blazing, avoid other players or actively hunt them, explore the secrets of Al Mazrah, and much more. Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is out on October 28th for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and PC. Warzone 2.0 will be available for the same platforms in November.
