Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 had an extensive gameplay reveal at Gamescom Opening Night Live, showcasing linear campaign mission. However, there are also Open Combat missions, where players have more freedom in their approach. A new trailer sees Sledgehammer Games discussing the same while showcasing some available options.
Open Combat missions occur on large maps, intertwined with the regular campaign missions. You start with a loadout and can discover weapons, Tactical equipment and loot, which are added to the Arsenal and allow for changing tactics mid-mission (since enemies will adapt). You can equip suppressors for stealth, armor plates for a guns-blazing approach or rely on a knife.
There are even vehicles available. The missions are designed for replay value, as players try different approaches and challenge themselves. One such mission overlooks the entire level from a catwalk and lets you decide where to go.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 launches on November 10th for Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, PC and Xbox One. Multiplayer details are coming at the next Call of Duty Next showcase, with an open beta in October.
