In a recent livestream, Infinity Ward revealed how cross-platform play in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will work. We already know that all post-launch maps, modes and Spec Ops missions will be released on all platforms simultaneously. But how cross-play work?
Essentially, matchmaking will be decided based on your control scheme. If you’re using a keyboard and mouse, you’ll be matched with those using the same (even if they’re on PS4 and Xbox One). So if you’re using a controller on PC, you can match up with those using the same on consoles.
You can opt out of cross-play entirely or partake in a lobby that mixes in players of all control schemes. Queue times should be shorter, theoretically, but we’ll have to wait and see how it works in practice. Interestingly, a Call of Duty account is needed to play online and also allows for creating cross-platform Friends lists and Parties.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is out on October 25th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Expect more campaign gameplay and Spec Ops details by September end and early October respectively.
