Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Will Offer “Direct Path to Content” – Infinity Ward

Studio art director Joel Emslie said the studio is focused on "making a different system".

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is on its way, with the recent launch trailer showcasing some new gameplay. However, players have been concerned over the game’s monetization since Supply Drops, the franchise’s version of loot boxes, were discovered in the beta. The fact that Spec Ops Survival will be a timed exclusive mode on PS4 for the next year hasn’t helped general player sentiment either.

Rumours indicated that new weapons would be sold in Supply Drops, and while Infinity Ward hasn’t confirmed this, it hasn’t outright denied it either. Studio art director Joel Emslie wrote an open letter on Reddit, encouraging players to give their feedback without being abusive. In a recent reply to that thread, he offered some response to the monetization issue.

“What I can say is that we are focused on making a different system for Modern Warfare, one with a direct path to content for players,” he wrote. This response seems to indicate a lack of RNG involved in acquiring content- but which content? What will the direct path be? Time will tell, and it’s not long before the shooter releases.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare releases on October 25th for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Stay tuned for more details on its Spec Ops mode later today.
