Even with issues like cheating, balance changes and so on, the Call of Duty series continues to perform well for Activision. In a recent earnings call, the franchise had more than 100 million monthly active users across its premium and free to play titles. Net bookings were effectively doubled over the previous year, especially thanks to Call of Duty: Warzone. Activision Publishing president Rob Kostich said that, “Warzone is going to be front-and-center for us for a long time.”
Premium unit sales for the full year also grew by 40 percent year over year. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War contributed to this (SuperData reported 5.7 million digital sales in November alone) but Modern Warfare also had strong second year sales. In terms of battle pass sales, Black Ops Cold War’s first season along with Warzone have led to the highest number sold yet.
Recently, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War received new Zombies map, Firebase Z, and new multiplayer map, Express. Warzone will also receive more crossover content, further advancing the current story until the next game’s release. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
