Sledgehammer Games finally premiered gameplay for Call of Duty: Vanguard at Gamescom Opening Night Live, showcasing the World War 2 setting and its various battles. It sees sniper Polina Petrova (played by Laura Bailey) in Stalingrad following its invasion by the Germans. One detail worth noting – the ability to mount weapons has returned, last appearing in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019).
Vanguard takes place in an alternate World War 2 and though it has numerous battles taking place during the conflict, much of the game is set after it concludes. Players will embark on a quest to eliminate Hitler’s successor of Project Phoenix, venturing to all kinds of different theaters of war. Along with the campaign, there will also be a Zombies mode developed by Treyarch and multiplayer, which includes the new Champion Hill mode.
Call of Duty: Vanguard is out on November 5th for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5 and PC. An alpha will be taking place this week, free for PlayStation players, with a beta coming next month. Stay tuned for more details on the title in the coming weeks along with additional announcements from Gamescom Opening Night Live.
