Can The Elder Scrolls 6 Be A Prequel?

Definitely an interesting proposition.

The Elder Scrolls has never been a series that is known for its narrative strengths, always choosing to focus instead on emergent open world gameplay experiences. But one narrative aspect that the series has always been known for is its strong, deeply engrossing lore and world building, which is something that goes a long way towards making these games as atmospheric and immersive as they are.

With that in mind, is it possible that Bethesda might try and play with the thousands of pages worth of lore that they’ve developed over the last five games and choose to make the inevitable The Elder Scrolls 6 a prequel? It’s entirely possible. We recently reported that the studio was maybe looking for new lead writer, hinting at a change in direction, and in light of that, this would make even more sense.

Making The Elder Scrolls 6 a prequel would accomplish several things. Not only could we potentially see the origins of several historical factions and groups in the series’ mythos, but we could also actually witness several historic events that have only been mentioned in the series, but have never actually been portrayed. For fans of the series, that is a mouth-watering prospect indeed.

Another thing that Bethesda could do with a prequel is setting it in one of the locations we’ve already visited in the series and not even having to worry about repetition. Setting a game thousands of years before any of the others take place would mean we get to visit familiar locations, locations which may not have to be all that familiar on account of how many years it is set in the past.

It’s definitely an exciting proposition, especially if you’re a fan of the series and have at least some level of familiarity with its rich and deep lore. Do you have any suggestions about where and when an Elder Scrolls prequel might be set? Let us know in the comments section below.
