Civilization 7 Announced for PC and Consoles, Coming Next Year

A full gameplay reveal will follow for the turn-based strategy game this August, developer Firaxis Games has confirmed.

2K Games confirmed last month that it would announcing the next instalment in one of its biggest and most beloved franchises at Summer Game Fest, and though there was some confusion in the lead-up to the show about what exactly that game would be, leaks eventually suggested that it would be Civilization 7. That has proven accurate.

Eight years on from its last new instalment, developer Firaxis Games’ beloved 4X strategy series has revealed its next game with a new, cinematic teaser that you can check out below. Specific details on the game are currently scarce, but it’s been confirmed that a full gameplay reveal will follow a couple of months from now, in August, where Firaxis will talk about the game’s “exciting new features and innovations”, so we’ll know more soon enough.

Civilization 7 is due out at some point in 2025. It will launch simultaneously for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch, which will be a first for the franchise, with previous games having been PC-exclusive upon launch (and often beyond).
